Progressive International Microwavable Potato Cooker with Lid Review

(More customer reviews)Like most people who have used a microwave, I've experienced food products exploding. Sometimes potatoes do this even with the recommended slitting of the spud and Progressive puts the lid on this problem quite literally with their potato cooker.
The bottom of the dish is not the same as using a typical plate because of raised half-inch plastic spikes along the bottom. These support the spud during the nuking process and avoids the "hot spot" on the bottom so common in using a regular plate for the microwave. This helps the tuber cook more evenly which makes for fewer explosions, a tastier spud consumption experience and easier cleanup.
The lid, apart from preventing a mess in the microwave, works in tandem with the raised bottom spikes to contain the inevitable steam which happen whenever a kilowatt of microwaves are hitting a veggie, while letting the food steam a bit in its own juices. Nobody likes a steamy microwave from a dried out veggie, and this product solves the issue nicely.
It's a bit too big for one potato and about right for two potatoes, and too small for three. It would have been better as a part of a three pack of one the size it is and one smaller, and one bigger. That way there would be a choice of cooking one potato, two potatoes, three potatoes, four.
Groan... that was bad, but the product is one I'd recommend to anyone who likes their baked potatoes.

(More customer reviews)I went to buy this item at Walmart for $79.00 and lasted only for 5 months - the extractor fan stopped working so now everytime I heat something for 2 minutes (3 minutes and the oven overheats), the interior gets full of vapor, no way to use it normally, causing the microwave to overheat and turn off for several minutes. The customer service is useless - everytime I'd tried to call i get this final message '...all of our X are busy..., good bye' --- zero contact with a living person. To get it repaired you need to send it to California, and then pay $15 to get it back. Don't buy, be sure to check the brand you buy has a local service center.

(More customer reviews)We bought Samsung Model: SMK9175ST from Bestbuy. This is an over the counter microwave that we purchased as ours broke down.
As we read through the manual, it mentioned that we should have a min clearance between the microwave and the stove. This is information that should be clearly listed on the box or given to Best Buy for their website. We didn't have this clearance so we had to move cabinetry around to achieve this.
After mounting the microwave, we noticed it had a dent in sheetmetal panel right at eye level, and so we dismounted it and returned exchanged it at Best Buy.
After the second installation, I noticed that the clear turntable overhung the microwave and upon shutting the door, the tray would jam between the door and the back and not turn. So we called for a replacement part. The replacement tray arrived after about 6 weeks or so and movement is jerky and that appears to be because the circular wheel racer is the wrong size.
We called tech support several times and their authorized technician has been to our home 3X to try to fix this simple issue. He tried ordering the part but he kept getting the wrong part.
Now their tech support wants us to dismount the microwave and take it back to Bestbuy for an exchange.
Evidently Samsung has some documentation and QC issues at their manufacturing plant in Malaysia where in parts with oversized trays and dented front panels are getting out the door. This has cost me a lot of my time.
When I bought the product, I never asked Samsung to go here and there and call up this number and that, get put on hold, etc to take my money. It was an instant transaction. Its been 3 months since we bought the product.

Considering the price I truly hoped it would live up to the claim of freezer-microwave-dishwasher safe... unfortunately after one or two washes the lids do not sit correctly. While I'm still able to use the base for serving food to the family, if I want to freeze in them I have to tape the lid closed for security.
So why even give it a 3 rating? Because all other products of this type have illustrated the same problem. No one seems to have found a way to make sure the lids don't loose their tightness (so it's my hope that companies will see reviews like this and get to the research lab!)

It took patience to put together, as there are many pieces while the directions and diagrams are not as clear as they should be. Once assembled, though, it is strong, sturdy and stable. I am sorry the shelves and drawer are particleboard, but that is to be expected in something this modestly-priced. Altogether I am very pleased with this item. It looks good, and it nicely holds the microwave, some pots and pans, and plenty of kitchen odds and ends while having a "small footprint". I'd recommend it to anyone who needs to add useful storage / work space to a smallish kitchen at a very reasonable cost.

Once one knows how to access the bottom screw securing the handle to the door by removing the door seal gasket, removal and installation is really quite easy; less than 5 minutes. It could be designed better, especially at the bottom, as handle breakage appears to be a common problem once one researches it on the web. There is some good information out there; you just have to look for it because GE will not give it to you.

(More customer reviews)I purchased GE Profile suite series made in Aug of 2007, one item being the GE Profile 1.8 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven Model PVM1870SMSS. It has been in use about 2 1/2 years and suddenly stopped working i.e. heating. Nothing heats in the microwave oven now. Everything else works fine.
I called Customer Service as this should be under warranty. The Profile line is their "top of the line" product and at the price it is, should definitely last longer than 2 1/2 years. It seems like the magnetron tube has gone out from what I am reading. The part is covered under warranty, but I will have to pay labor. GE wants to charge $100 to send out a service tech plus labor.
Very disappointed that this high end appliance has not lasted very long. Did not have excessive use as I have a household of 1. Isn't something being done about this. GE shouldn't have so many complaints regarding magnetron tubes. They should last longer than 2 1/2 years! I see hundreds of complaints here regarding same issue.
I has an old Emerson counter top that laster 14+ years. I will not buy GE anymore and will need to file an official complaint.

Be sure to poke the yokes and whites with a fork before cooking to keep the explosions to a minimum. ;-)
Also add half a teaspoon of water under and on top of eggs before cooking.
30 seconds per egg on med-high (7 out of 10 setting) Adjust time + or - 10 sec for desired yokeage liquidity. ;-) Ya know what i'm talkin' bout.
